Defeat away at Whittingham for the 1st XI

A disappointing result following last weeks win against TBC. Losing the toss saw us batting first up on a decent deck which was slow and true. Chris Allan and Blamps opened up, Chris having already been dropped once, got defeated by skying a slower delivery. Two silly run outs saw us on 60 for 3 from 20 overs, not an ideal start both with the slow run rate and loss of key wickets. Blamps fell for 31 which will encourage him and Wrighty contributed with 40 odd, a decent innings which was faultless up to the point where he got out. Naveed scored a handy 20 and Roger Garlick was the pick of the batting with a classy 40 odd. Unfortunately, he and Dav were left with too much to do at the end on a track which should have seen us get 3 batting points without too much fuss. Still, 176 was not a disaster by any means and a winable score on our day.

Hilly and Jordan tested the water with 4 from each end but the pitch was not taking any seam or pace. On came the slowies with slowed their innings down. However, converse to our start, they were on 60 after 11 which gave them time to work the ball and see the game out with plenty of overs to spare. The bowling performance was a decent effort, as was the fielding. Veitchy picked up their main dangerman Modhi, who hit some good quality shots and Dav chipped in with a couple too.

All in all, the best side won on a batting track that favoured their stroke players. On another day with more luck, things might have been different. Our downfall was almost certainly the two run outs which hampered our innings. On a final note, a mention to the opposition and umpires in a game which was played in a good spirit, free from controversy.
