Chairman’s thoughts
The Last Time
Actually the second last time you’ll hear from me this season.
One game to go and we now know where we stand. On the top, looking down and the view is fantastic.
The first, first team championship for 53 years.
The seconds in third place and with their record could have secured promotion in almost any other season.
All in all a very, very satisfying year. Well done!
After all of the excitement of the year and the nervous tension there must have been in the run up to the last two games, knowing our future was in our own hands, it is almost an anti-climax to win the league by watching rain fall. However if we repeat that next year and win the Palace Shield the same way I’m sure we won’t be too concerned.
Whatever your personal situation I hope you have enjoyed the season’s cricket. Some will have done better than expected, some will have been disappointed and there will be many stories to tell during the close season.
At the moment April seems a long time away but before you know where you are, it will be presentation night, then the Palace Shield presentation, then Christmas, followed soon after by indoor nets and before you know it the whites are coming out again.
PS
Don’t forget that next Saturday the nets have to come down and we expect the players to be there to do the work. It’s your club.

View from the Boundary
And now the end is near…..
or so the song says but its marks the end of a good season for the club. The 1sts have achieved the goal of promotion in grand style - CHAMPIONS - so congrats to all who have played a part in that great achievement. After the start to the campaign this has been a tremendous performance. The 2nd XI have battled throughout the season and haven’t come up against anything that wasn’t beatable, though fair play to Penwortham, best side in the division and I think they will do well next year in div 2. The 3rd XI looked at one stage that they might make the playoffs but still some good performances from individuals (perhaps one or two though still need to grow up!!) more of that later …….
So how has the season gone for you personally and from a club point of view - are there highlights / lowlights and what can we do to improve things? Have a think and let your views be known either in writing to the committee or by turning up at a committee meeting. It’s only by you letting club officials know how you feel that we can keep progressing.
Players attitude ----something that has come to light on more than one occasion this season. So I ask the question what do you want? I think the majority turn up to play the game enjoy it, but play to win – some players just seem to what to turn up and take the mickey, out of teammates and opposition. In my view not good enough – we play serious cricket, by all means have fun whilst playing the game, but when we are on the pitch we should be playing to win and that means preparing properly and representing the club – some people appear that they don’t seem to want to do that. Well beware other players are not willing to put up with it - Food for thought for some.
On to next season and it could be a major season in the clubs history and to ensure we hit the ground running, the preparation for all of us starts here. Lots to be done at the ground before the season starts and hopefully we can get volunteers to get down there and put the work in. You will be asked to volunteer have no fear - Put the work in and reap the rewards - please do not leave it to the faithful few – they might not be there!!!
And on that theme - congrats to Bob who was awarded a certificate of recognition from the CSSC for all the hours of hard work he has done for the Cricket Club over the past few years – never has an award been more fitting or deserved.
Boundary Boys nominations for awards – just a bit of fun!!!
1st XI player of the year - Adam “Average” Jackson – certainly not an average year for the boy. Special mention as well to Steve “rabbits” Hill, Mike (Martin) Veitch, Naveed , Opey and the skipper who finally understood that he could get runs.
2nd XI player of the year – Lee Wilson – runs galore and sandwiches as well – disappointed that we didn’t get promoted but not for the want of the skip – Special mentions as well to Kieran Mc Gann who has shown tremendous promise and Jay Dyer for an impressive display of wicketkeeping.
3rd XI player of the year – difficult one this but probably split between Blamps who took over the captaincy and led the way with some good performances and the bowlers (Opey , Lester Junior ) who at last managed to break 10 wickets so we can have a bowling prize for the 3rd XI this season.
Club Man(Men) – Phil and Bob – who knows where the club would be without the hours they put in – if we all put in 10% of what they put in - boy what a club we would have.
And finally …..Norcy stars nominations for TV/film roles
Chris Openshaw - starring role in “Splash in the Dyke”
Andy Hill – Matrix revisited (Hoghton away!!!!)
Jack “Woody” Holland – Bambi on ice - gets some studs
Chris Lester – Vanish washing commercial – according to his dad he should be sponsored by them
Phil Dawson – one man and his tractor
Steve Hill – Watership Down
Billy’s Rowe & Jenkinson - The Young Ones
Billy Rowe – The Flying Picket (fence)
Steve Wright – Casualty
Craig Wilkinson – the Geoffrey Boycott Story
And a message to all …………….Get yourselves down to the presentation night – tickets are now available and if you haven’t voted for the players player do it now!!!!!.
And don’t forget the League presentation do – lets make it a Norcross night to remember. It’s the 1st time in 53 years we have won a 1st XI title so make a note in your diary – Friday 7th November. More details at Presentation night.

Match Reports
1st XI
16/08 Vernon Carus (a) VC 169ao NX 168ao – promotion nerves or a good 6 points? At the end of the game disappointment but the news that nearest rivals White Coppice picked up nil points lighten the mood a little. Good performances with the ball from Opey 3-26 and Andy Hill 3-48. In reply Naveed (65) looked like he would win it on his own but despite steady contributions it was left to Andy and Opey to win the game, Opey falling to a good catch at sq leg ,one run short – best we don’t mention the stumps Opey!!!!
23/08 Eccleston(a) E 78ao NX 58.5 – Top of the table clash in the end spoilt by the weather. Eccleston batting first were restricted by good opening spells from Hilly and Opey followed up by Veitchy and Naveed both claiming 3 wickets. In reply we had reached 58-5 when a shower on top of an already damp outfield made bowling dangerous. Naveed finished on 34not out including a hugeeeeeeee 6.
30/08 Torrisholme (h) NX 148.8 T 96ao – more vital points on the push to promotion. Having been put in on a good wicket but very grassy outfield we lost early wickets before Wilson (24) and Allan (28) restore the innings. Then the total was boosted by some big hitting from Captain for the day Steve Hill (40). Needing to remove the top two Opey (4-36) and Mike Veitch did that and tight bowling , good fielding and Elmer Fudd (3-14) finished it off getting his customary rabbits.
06/09 Gt Eccleston (a) the rain it came but it didn’t dampen spirits as all games were washed out so we were confirmed as champions – well done to all
13/09 Longridge (h) – lets try and finish the season on a high
2nd XI
16/08 New Longton (h) NX 83ao NL 81ao – Holidays and late withdrawals hit hard (10 men at 1pm) and with the prospect of rain curtailing any play – fortunately it didn’t!! – we had 1st use of the track. Apart from Lee Wilson (AGAIN) 36 nobody really got to grips with getting their heads down (apart from Henno asleep on the ground) and we fell from 50-2 to 83ao. In reply, after a 1st ball wicket, NL were 76-5 and looking comfortable but tight bowling (Wilson 3-19 & Cowburn 3-4) and good fielding kept the pressure on and the last wicket fell 2 runs short. A good battling performance if not a good one for the heart.
23/08 Wrea Green (h) NX 160-3 WG 84ao – all credit to Phil for once again getting the ground fit to play on. We had 1st use and Sir Geoffrey Wilko (54*) and Greg (24) put on a good opening stand After a rare failure by the skip, Jason followed up with a quick 53 and we posted a more than useful 160. In reply Hilly 3-10 and Wilson 4-10 ensured a good win.
30/08 Freckleton (a) NX 182.8 F 97ao – Push for 3rd place continued with a good win. Blamps 73, Jay Dyer 34 giving us a good base to set a more than challenging total. Wickets for all in reply Sam (2), The dentist (2) and Kieran(2) with Greg picking up 3-21.
06/09 South Shore (h) Lake Norcross won again
13/09 Fylde (a) – the aim is to finish 3rd boys ……………..lets do it
