Chairman’s thoughts

By the time you read this we will be hurtling towards the end of the season with only five, or six, matches left. (and the chair  sunning himself  in France – Ed)

Both Saturday sides in contention for promotion and the Sunday team, hopefully, qualified for the end of season play offs. Now is the time for players to step up to the plate. Now is the time when promotions are won and lost. Do not lose focus, when it comes to the crunch it will be the side that holds the catches and performs best in the big games that will win out in the end. Few teams have the chance of promotion and in actual fact it is not something we have enjoyed all that much at Norcross. I did, once and it felt great. This is your time to enjoy the feeling so make sure that you do what you can to make it happen. Practice hard and play hard.

Off the field a big thank you to Andy Hill and everyone else involved in the Casino night. It has raised a lot of money for club funds, some of which I want to put towards getting more coaches qualified.

If you would like to take a course this winter please speak to me and well make the arrangements.

View from the Boundary

Where do we  start this month

firstly - fund raising is the life blood of any club and to that end on Saturday 5th July saw  the club’s yearly main fund raiser as we  held a Casino night . A big thank you to all who attended always good to see the function room full  and a packed room enjoyed the  night with funny money flowing, and  lots of money won (and Lost ) on the tables. Then following on from the raffle and funny money auction when  many prizes  were given away we then had  the  highlight of the evening,  the auction of many signed sporting items and many other prizes. This hopefully has  raised many pounds towards club funds  - if you signed up for one of the prizes please ensure you pay as  soon as possible.

Many, many people to thank but most of all Andy Hill for all his hard work selling tickets and  compering the  evening, Beth for the food, Gordon Chubb for providing the auction goods, The  NX Social Centre for their  contribution and  support, both Chris’ Messrs Allan and Lester for  a superb raffle  sell and Dave Heanaghan  for  door  minding. But mainly the  players, partners and  friends for  your  support – we  raised over  £1000 on the  night.

-

As  we  enter the  2nd half of the season we,   as  a club,  still have a lot to play for. At the  time of writing the  1st XI are  riding high in Div 1,  the 2nd  XI are still hunting down the 2nd promotion spot from Div 3 and the 3rd XI are  trying to ensure they finish high enough to make the play offs for the Sunday league.. Hopefully all players can put in the extra bit of effort to make this a highly successful season.  Believe and we  can achieve   Make every effort to attend nets  - practice makes perfect but most of  all play the  game  - play it hard  but fair and hopefully reap the  right rewards.

And finally ……..

As  visitors to the ground will have seen the patio area  is now complete. A lot of  effort  has gone into this project,  please respect and look after it and ensure others including visitors,  do so as well.

Enjoy yer Cricket

Match Reports

1st XI

14/6 – Torrisholme  (away) T191.5 NX 192-6– High scoring battle  up north as  Torrisholme  amassed 192 including 103 no from Mckevitt – Steve Hill pick of the bowlers 3-43 and  no rabbits!!!! In reply Naveed (45) and  Average  sorry Adam Jackson (88 not out0  saw us home .

21/6 – Great Eccleston  (home) washout

28/6 – Longridge (away) – NX 231.9 L 163.9 -  Another good win for the boys as  Naveed 55 Jacko 56 and the jug dodging skipper 49* ensured a very competitive total. In their  reply Longridge  were  always up against it and Naveed capped a fine  day with 6-30

5/7 – Hoghton (home) – H 108ao 111-3 -  Another good win as  Hoghton were  2nd going into the  game as they beat the rain eventually!!! Wickets shared restricted Hoghton to 108 naveed 3-14 IMD 3-12 and in reply Naveed (52) and Average Jackson 32* (great season – keep it going AJ) saw us home.

12/7 – Wrea Green (away) – WG 88ao NX 92-6 -  10 more points as promotion push is maintained. Steve Hill impressive 6-15 should have meant Wrea Green getting nowhere near 88 though!!. In reply Wrighty’s 27 and the  skipper’s  28 saw  us home.

19/7 – Withnell Fold (home) – WF 62ao NX 63-1 -  Another good win as Withnell “folded”   against good bowling from Mike Veitch 5-12  including a hat trick and the skipper’s moon balls 3-13. A 9 wkt win was achieved with Our Steven knocking an impressive, can it be  said mature, 32*.

26/7 – Croston (away) – C 109ao NX 110-3 -  10 more points as the promotion bus keeps rolling. Good allround  bowling Steve Hill 3-20, and Martin (sorry Mike) Veitch with 3-33 the pick. In reply Wrighty with 35 and a return to form for young Lester 37 secured a 7 wicket win.

02/8 – White Coppice  (away) – WC 150ao NX 151-5 -  Top of the table  clash and  we  emerged  with another 10 points. Again Steve Hill 3-19 and  Mike  Veitch 4-60 ( should  have  been more  but for  sloppy fielding) restricted  WC. In reply Naveed with 53  and  Chris Lester (32) took us home to a 5 wicket win.

09/8 – Fulwood & Broughton  (home) washout

2nd XI

14/6 – Freckleton (home) F 162-7 NX 165-4 – Freck given 1st use and  posted 162, which from nearly 100 for  no wicket was a good comeback from NX bowlers . Talking of comebacks today saw one Roger Garlick return with 2 wickets and  a very fluent  34 not out. Coupled with good batting from Wilson (60) Jay (37) and  Blamps (25) a good win, in fact only one failure - stand up Drewer.

21/6 – South Shore (away) washout

28/6 – Fylde (h) F 153-8 NX 124ao – chance  to take 3rd place in the league passed by as  Fylde posted 20 more than they should have done despite 3 wickets each for the Bury boys. In reply lots of teen scores but apart from Dharmesh Patel 38* nobody built on their start.

05/07 – Hoghton (a) NX 157-9 H102ao – back to winning ways again despite batsman getting out after starts - only Capt Wilson (38) and Sam “Dick” Bury (25) really progressed,  though shot of the day – Gregor’s huge 6 into the field. In reply  we  bowled well Gregs 3 in 4 balls, leading the way, helped by a superb stumping  from Jay Dyer. Highlight in the field, Andy  Hill’s matrix impression at slip!!

12/07 – Penwortham (h) P 180-8NX 130ao – We  welcomed the unbeaten league leaders to the lane and  despite a decent start and  an allround decent bowling/fielding display, we couldn’t dislodge Walmsley who got to 100 in the  last over. In reply a steady fall of wickets with only Lee producing a captain’s  innings (48) which got us a bonus point.

19/07 – Springfields (a) S 96ao NX 37ao – A bad day at the Preston Sports Arena as we  hoped to get back on track. Andy Hill 3-37 and  Young Mc Gann 2 wickets restricted our opponents to 96 (could  /should  have been less) in reply we  were not at the races 9 bowled!!

26/07 – Withnell Fold (h) NX 219-5 WF 102ao – A bright sunny day at the Lane and  the best opening stand of the season saw  Blampied 42, Lester 34 set up the base for Wilson 71 * and Saunders 32* to post a good total. Even helped “the fold”  with sub fielders who accounted for  both openers with good catches – thanks Greg and  Sauney!!!. Despite 20 off the first 2 overs, steady bowling restricted our opponents to 102  including 3 wickets for  old man Lester including one  via the slow left arm. Special mention to Greg Cowburn who continued his good catching form with 2 in this innings

02/08 – Grimsargh (h) NX 178-7 G 144-9 – A chance to redress the 10 wkt horror earlier  in the season  at  Grimsargh and  batting first Parker  33 and  Skipper Wilson 51 together with a bit of late hitting took us to a competitive score. In reply Grimsargh were  held  in check by a great spell of  bowling by Andy Hill 6-50.

09/08 -  Whittingham (a) washout

3rd XI

15/6 – St Annes (a) NX 144ao SA 85ao – Comebacks abound  as  Ricky Peat stand  in a good win at St Annes – Rick 55 &  Chris Lester 26 were the  main stays of the innings. In reply good bowling all round  saw St Annes fall away to 85ao. Wickets for  Wilson 3 (how – must be  after Hillys rabbit tag!!!)  and Young Mc Gann picked up a couple

22/6 – TBC (h) NX 41ao TBC 42-2 – less said the better!!!

29/6 -  Penwortham (a) P 137ao NX 138-3 – A good performance in restricting a good side (most of this side  have made it to the  Crabtree cup final – and subsequently won it) to 138 – Chris Lester 5-13 the pick of the bowlers. In our reply Chris Morrell hit a career best 82* to take us to a 7 wicket win.

06/07 – Walton le  dale(h) – No play at the lake – aka Norcross

13/07 – Whittingham (a) – W 112ao NX 113-7Good allround  bowling with wickets shared  apart from Henno!!!!. Pick being Young Keiran who got 3-33. In reply capt Blamps hit 57 to take us to another win.

20/07 – Whittle le Woods (h) – WLW 125-5 NX 126-6 Hunt for  a possible play off play continues as we  restricted WLW to 125 – Opey 3-19. In reply steady batting from Blamps 32 , Dicko 22 and Lester jnr 25* saw us home.

27/07 – Bae Preston (a) – Bae 134-8 NX 135-5 Another good win despite 6 dropped catches and  numerous extras – Chris Lester pick of the  bowlers  with 3-9. In reply Chris Parker 28, Wilson 45* (almost as  many not outs as AJ now !!)  and young Lester 17* saw  the  side home  to a 5 wicket win.

10/08 – Longridge (a) – L 165-8 Nx 76ao. Not a lot to say apart from we  know look unlikely to qualify for  the  knock out stages. We ALL need to take the  game  seriously if we  are to develop and progress.
