Chairman’s thoughts
Differing success levels so far but still a very long way to go. Some of you will have good seasons and some of you will not live up to your own hopes and expectations. But if you enjoy your cricket, we will all do better.
Remember it is our club. It isn’t mine. It isn’t Phil’s. It isn’t Dav’s. It isn’t anyone’s.
If we all treat it like that and do what we can to help our club, we will prosper.
It is with a heavy heart that I have to tell you that this season we have had to report to the league that we are unable to field an under 13 team, or an under 17 team. I’m sure some of this is influenced by the fact that for the last few years we haven’t had enough senior members helping out with our junior section. We haven’t been properly able to give the boys intensive one to one coaching and some will have made the decision that they would either get that elsewhere, or have just given up on cricket altogether. Either way it is a real shame.
Junior nets are on a Thursday night and if you are prepared to give up some of your time then those of us already involved and the boys themselves will be very grateful. Don’t think you need to be a qualified coach. Don’t be put off if you do come down and there appear to be enough seniors there already. You don’t need to be a coach to teach boys how to field, how to pick up a ball and throw it, or how to catch it. If you are able to do that then it frees up the time of qualified coaches to coach boys in the technicalities of batting and bowling.
Please do your bit to support OUR club. Bob

Have to start this edition with some big thank you’s –to our club sponsors and to all the players/partners/parents who turned up and supported the cricket force weekends ,including a big thank you to Lee Willetts. If you weren’t there, then in the words of Al Murray
SHAME ON YOU!!.
The grounds club etc are yours and it was disappointing to hear that certain people couldn’t be bothered to turn up . Well perhaps when you are looking for a ball to use in the nets, for example and someone tells you they can’ t be bothered looking for one don’t be surprised. I accept that some people couldn’t make every weekend due to work etc, but you can sacrifice an hour or two surely???
Anyway, there are still a few bits to complete but the ground is looking well and a good reward for all the hard work that was put in by those who participated. I know that the location can be a tad windy (say that again) and lack of bar is and always has been a big disappointment, but we have to ensure that we make the ground as welcoming as we can, for supporters and visitors alike. Please continue to support all efforts to keep the ground looking good.
So the sun has started to shine (I think) and the season has started with some good performances, full match details elsewhere, but special mention to Lee Wilson and his 2nd team a promising start. Still a long way to go and plenty of points to be gained.
Let keep the performances up, play hard but fair, enjoy your cricket and hopefully lets bring some rewards back to the club.
And talking of rewards the club needs all members to get involved on the 5th JULY – when we are holding this years fun and fund raiser – it will be a themed Casino night - watch out for more details coming out very soon.
And finally…………………….. congratulations to both Bob and Phil. Their unstinting efforts for the club were acknowledged and rewarded at the recent HASSRA awards ceremony held at the DeVere’s Hotel. Bob’s work for HASSRA in general (i.e his chairmanship of the club and his involvement in the Special event Boules team and preparation of the boules court ) was rewarded when he was presented with an Award of Merit. He also received the club award for the Cricket Club which was voted the 2nd best club in the HASSRA Fylde area - a great achievement, and something we should all be proud of. This time next year we might all be celebrating winning the top prize.
The highlight of the evening though, apart from the scandalous bar prices , had to be the award for Best Volunteer in a club. Both Bob and Phil were nominated and made the final short list of 3. Phil was announced as runner up in the category and our table roared its approval as Bob took the 1st prize, both fully deserving of the award in our eyes both winners - this club would be in a mess without them.

Match Reports
1st XI
19/4 Hoghton (away) – Hoghton 117.9 NX 79ao – Not the best start for the 1st team as they travelled away and played on a damp track. Early removal of the Eccles boys raised spirits but a spirited 74 from Hurst – top score by a long way not helped by 3 dropped catches enabled Hoghton to reach 117. In reply a steady start but wickets tumbled on a regular basis and apart from Naveed (27) and Mike Veitch (10) nobody else reached double figures.
26/4 Wrea Green (home) - WG 119ao NX 106ao – expectations high of a 1st win but despite Steve Hill’s 6-31 and 33 runs (good captains performance) we fell short. Going from 51-1 t o 56-6 didn’t help with only Wrighty’s 31 of the top order really contributing.
03/05 Withnell Fold (away) - NX 127.9 WF 128.7 – losing the toss we were given 1st use of a dampish slow track and despite Adam Jackson’s (58) innings, it was felt 10 runs or so short on that pitch. In reply Withnell started well but good bowling from Ian Davies (6-44) ensured a tight finish. In the end we fell to defeat in the last over.
2nd XI
19/4 Hoghton (home) – Norcross 173.9 Hoghton 100 ao – We were invited to take 1st use of the newly laid square and in Arctic conditions 5 of our opponents wore woolly hats!! Allan (31) and Parker (41) put on over 50 for the 1st wicket despite a rocky spell which saw us 106.6 Wilko (52) marshalled the tail to get us to 173. Jordan Beech a good 18no together with sensible batting from Ben Dicko and Kieran McGann on his 2nd XI debut. In reply tight bowling restricted Hoghton to 57.7 before they rallied slighty before Dharmesh finished off the tail. Lester 5-21 Patel 3 -28 and good little spells from the aforementioned Beech and McGann.
26/4 Penwortham (away) - Penwortham 163ao NX 133 – May be one that got away. Good bowling from all bowlers including impressive debuts from father and son (Keith (3-40) and Sam Bury) plus a welcome return of the Dentist (4-36) restricted Penwortham, but perhaps we would rue the 25 extras given away. In reply Wilson (31) and Morrell (23) got us into a good position only for 2 silly run outs left us realistically chasing bonus points rather than the win. Again Keith and Sam contributing with the bat as well. No disgrace against a team expected to be up there at the end of season.
27/4 Walton le Dale (home) – Loxham Cup – WLD 43ao NX 44-3 – Progression in the cup as NX beat Walton (and the rain) to record a cup win. Sam (5-11) and Keith (3-7) continued their good bowling from the day before and despite a hiccup at the start of the reply, a 7 wicket win was completed.
03/05 Springfields (home) – Sp’field 69ao NX 72-3 – A weaken team due to missing personnel in the `1st XI but good bowling from the Bury’s Keith (4-11) Sam (3-2) restricted Springfields to 69ao. In reply capt Wilson (31no) led the side to a comfortable win.
3rd XI
20/4 Wrea Green (home) – WG failed to raise a team so well done Woody 10points in his first game , that’s a record to keep going
